Step away from bland purpose built chalets and into our charming ski lodge with bags of character and superb cuisine that is the perfect retreat of La Vieille Forge. Once the village smithy, our premier chalet is just 250m from the Les Houches pistes (Chamonix's World Cup venue) and offers the best combination of attentive service, top facilities and wonderfully retro furnishings that embody the Alpine style.

Your holiday enjoyment is paramount so we include a comprehensive minibus service. Everyday of your holiday we will transport you to the various ski areas in the valley and back, take you for après ski and out to Chamonix town in the evenings collecting you at 23:00! For further details see  minibus service . Why stomp to the slopes for 10 minutes by foot or sit on a sweaty ski bus when you can be chauffeured to the bottom of your favourite ski lift in warmth and comfort?!

Each bedroom is ensuite with a shower/wc or enjoys it's own private, adjacent bath or shower with wc. In some of the bathrooms we have used beautiful Italian limestone tiles. The Forge has bags of character in a French chic style and is enhanced by our collection of lovingly collected ski memorabilia, books, vintage ski's and original posters. We've also included every home comfort to make your stay a real pleasure; a sauna and exterior hot tub, impressive 50" Plasma TV with Sky and Wii Sports and free internet. We also have a dedicated treatment room allowing guests a private space in which to enjoy a relaxing massage from a trained therapist.

More Information

Our talented chef and chalet hosts offer a friendly yet professional service. Our premier extra's are standard. In the bedrooms; crisp white bed linen, bathrobes for the Jacuzzi, exclusive L'Occitane or Aveda bath products, slippers and towels.

Each day we offer a substantial breakfast with a cooked dish, afternoon tea with a homemade cake on return and on 5 evenings during the week we serve a delicious 4 course evening meal with canapés, pre-dinner drinks, AOC house wine and fresh coffee or herbal teas to finish. On the chefs nights off we'll drop and collect you from your chosen restaurant so you can enjoy the wine!

 See our food menus if you would like to read more about our cuisine - we are passionate about our food and can even offer groups the option of organic catering. We also have pledged to use only free range eggs in our kitchen. This property is classed as a para-hotel and conforms to all local regulations concerning health, safety and fire regulations.

The Forge is on three levels:

Ground floor	A spacious living room with an oak floor, leather sofas and chairs set cosily by the wood-burning stove and open-plan to a charming wood panelled dining room. The traditional mountain ambience of a classic Alpine home has been recreated using reclaimed wood, stags antlers and cow hide rugs! Sauna with shower/wc. Exterior Hot tub. 1st floor	Entrance, heated boot room. Galley kitchen, sunny breakfast room with rustic hand-made pine table and benches. We serve a delicious buffet style cooked breakfast here each day. All bedrooms have their own facilities either an ensuite shower/wc or adjacent bath or shower with wc.  Chalet hairdryers available. All bedrooms have wardrobes and a small chest of draws as minimum. Bedroom 1:  twin room or Superking double ensuite with shower/wc. Breakfast and afternoon tea 7 nights, delicious evening meal with canapés, aperitifs and good wine on 5 nights. For families we provide 'kidz high tea', on 6 nights, allowing adults to eat out alone one night! Single supplements apply to individuals staying in a twin room (not bedroom 7). Transfer supplements apply to transfers for groups of 3 or less.

Location: Les Houches, 250m to the ski pistes. 10 minutes drive to Chamonix town.

Other points of interest

One or two Staff live-in. Tuesday is the usual chalet day off. Floor area in the region of 350 sqr. m. Parking for 4 guest vehicles. Exclusive chalet use based on min. 12 persons paying the full per person price plus any applicable single room supplements or children's discounts can apply thereafter.

Information for families

Chalets certainly provide child friendly accommodation with 'Home away from Home' appeal. For families with children under 8 yrs old we ask that you book any catered chalet exclusively to your group. For families with older kids we welcome you at La Forge and we'll mix you in with any other groups staying in the chalet.

For mixed groups with children we prefer to keep dinner a 'grown-up' affair.  For under 8yrs we offer a 'Kidz high tea'.  Chef can either offer that nights menu or we freshly prepare cuisine with Kidz appeal; spaghetti, home-made pizza, crispy chicken fillets with fried potatoes, fish gougons with mushy peas,  for example. We will look forward to speaking with mum on the phone and receiving the hit list!

We offer our kidz high tea 6 nights per week whilst our other catering is 5 nights. This allows family groups to enlist the help of a local babysitter to eat out alone one night! If family groups would prefer to eat in together on the 6th night we can organise an extra nights catering at a supplement of £25 per adult.

The chalet itself is well equipped with everything kids may need, DVD, Sat TV, a basket of toys, books and games and for older kids  'Baby-foot' (table football) We have a cots, and highchairs but we don't supply cot linen or car safety seats. Please remember to bring your own childs feeding equipment, nappies and formula milk. For little ones it is also prudent to pack two of everything; ski suits, mittens, hats, sunscreen etc.

By the nature of the Chamonix valley we recommend that families with small children also consider having at least one car. Certainly our excellent minibus service is available to take everyone skiing in the morning and collecting everyone at tea-time but please don't rely on our transport to take little ones back at lunchtime if they're cold or tired as invariably our staff will have left for their own ski time or they've gone shopping.
